Chompy Bird Hunting
Once you have completed Big Chompy Bird Hunting you have the ability to hunt Chompy birds. These birds are wanted by high level cookers and slayers because they are one of the many ingredients to Wild Pies - a dish which boosts slayer.
Items needed
To start hunting you need ogre arrows, ogre bow and ogre bellows. Depending on the amount of arrows you own, you may want to bring a hatchet, knife and chisel with you to easily fletch arrows out on the field.
Making ogre arrows is different from making normal arrows. First you need logs from Achey trees. These give random amount of shafts; 2-6. Adding feathers will require 4 feathers per shaft. Lastly, the arrow tips can only be carved from wolf bones. Using a chisel on the bones will also give a random amount. Six ogre arrows make up one set.

Areas
There are three areas where you can hunt chompys. There's Rant'z place east of Feldip Hills, the field south of castle wars and also an area south of Gu'Tanoth.
Feldip Hills is good because it has everything (wolves, swamp and hunting ground) rather close together, as well as a beast free zone south of Rant's hunting ground. The downside is the lack of bank nearby. There is a second hunting ground not marked on the map, just a tad bit north-west of the swamp. This area is however inhabited by Ogres (lvl 53), and they are aggressive to anyone less than twice their level.
The field south of Castle Wars is my favourite because there isn't anything that will attack when passing by like there is at Feldip Hills or Gu'Tanoth. There's a chest (bank) closeby too. The downside is that you have to travel a bit if you need to kill wolves.
The third spot south of Gu'Tanoth is not recommended for people who activate the aggressive side of Ogres and Giant spiders (lvl 27). These will seriously interrupt and annoy you, and possibly even kill you. Despite that, this is a good spot too. The gnome glider runway is a perfect place to place bloated toads. It's possible to hunt chompys on the side of the volcano too, where the ogres and spiders don't go, but there is basically no visibility there.
Sidenote: Giant spiders stop being aggressive at combat level 54-56.

The hunt
Hunting the birds is just like it was during the quest. You fill the bellows with swamp gas. Then you use them on three toads 'ribbiting' about the area. You may only carry three toads at a time.
Place the toads at a clearing, in any fashion you want. If you by any chance stand close to a toad when it pops, you will take damage by flying bits of toad. No need to worry. It doesn't cause any major harm. It's just amusing.
Once the toads have been placed, move a few squares away and wait. This is definitely a waiting game. Sometimes you get three birds almost all at once. Other times none will come.
The bird will be highlighted by a blinking yellow arrow. This will ensure that you know which bird is yours in case there's another chompy hunter nearby. If you get more than one bird at once, the newest arrival will be highlighted.
Once killed, pluck it and make use of the bits and pieces. This little piece of meat is worth roughly 150 coins on the market - if you decide to sell it that is.
Each kill is carved onto your bow. Show your bow to Rantz and you may get a nice feathered hat as a reward.
The hats
There are a total of 18 hats to collect. Six different colours and three different types.
In addition to the achievement of killing 4000 chompys and recieving the final fabulous hat, a total of 30000 Range xp is awarded.
